a friend owes money

I have a friend who owes money to an old boyfriend. She has said she will pay him back but he is giving her 2 weeks and then he will take action(small claims). It was an airline ticket to come see him. Can he do this? After all, she did allow him to stay at her home rent free for a few days recently???

Sure, he can sue her if he wants. But a judge will see that it looks like "sour grapes" from the relationship ending. The court does not like disputes with underlying subplots, and may see fit to have mercy on your friend, if her contention is she doesn't owe the money or that their agreement gave her more time.
