Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Trying to keep my good credit!

I went to school in 1986, I got financial aid and never got a job that I was guaranteed to get. I never paid this account off. Know they are wanting their money. They want to sue me and garnish my wages. I only make $5.25 an hr. What can I do. I worked so hard for my credit and now I don't know what to do. What right do I have Please help!
