Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

good morning, i received a wage garnishment judgement yesterday, i had been on vacation so my employer gave it to me when i came back. its for a car loan, in 1997. im the co-signer and the car was impounded not sure what happened after that. i went to prison in 1999. And served 10 yrs and now they are coming after me. I dont know what to do.... help please... should i get a lawyer? the total amount is like 15,000.
