harrased to pay bill not responsible for
my ex's mother purchased carpet for a home i bought. she did the loans for the place and offered to recarpet the place since her FRIEND owns the carpet company and now over a year after we seperated i am recieving bills from the carpet company. the bills are in her name with my address. they are all bill to her companys address with her companies name. the collections company is telling me to pay the bill then attempt to get the money from her. please give me any advise you have on this situation. thanks

I don't think you are responsible. I think you received a gift. Tell the collection agency to stop calling you and then put it in writing.

It sounds like the carpet was a gift. If you never hired that company and if you never promised that company you would pay for the carpet, you probably don't have to pay for it.
If she had paid cash for it on the day it was installed (and if it was a gift), she could not recover the money from you a year later. Your facts seem to be the legal equivalent of this.
