Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Hello,
Recently a friend of mine suggested I do a background check on myself just to see if anything weird turned up. She'd had some weird things in hers turn up so it seemed like an interesting idea. I ran my name though the superior courts of various California counties and came up with one hit. Apparently a collection agency had brought a claim against me twelve years ago when I was in college. This is possible. I'd had a nervous breakdown and had to be put under the care of a psychiatrist. I thought I'd fixed everything that had fallen by the wayside - I check my credit report regularly but this never showed up.
Anyway, the result was "REQUEST FOR DISMISSAL OF ENTIRE ACTION WITHOUT PREJUDICE FILED" and "DESTROYED CASE FILE PURSUANT TO G.C. 68152". I want to stress that I never knew about this case. I'm guessing because they couldn't find me to give me a summons?
Is this something I should try to fix? And is there anyway I can make sure this record does not come up somewhere else and harm me?
Thank you.

Congratulations! The case is over, and you won. Maybe some nutty collection agency will yet harass and/or sue and/or re-age your credit report over this claim, but if they did you could sue them.
