Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Hi,
I loaned someone from Canada $5000 using Western Union in California. The person promised to repay the amount (I have e-mails as promissory notes) but has not done so. I would like to take legal action against this person, possibly put a lean on their assets. What is the best method for going about this?
Thanks,

You could file a small claims case here, and domesticate the judgment in Canada. In reality, it probably would be easier to just bring the small claims case in one of the provincial courts where the person lives.
How did you meet this person? Do you even know for sure where they live, or what their real name is? My guess is your money was picked up in Nigeria, and you used poor judgment in wiring money to a stranger.
