Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I am homeless but I have been able to stay with a few friends here and there.

I have an 8000.00 court judgment against me for a renters evection.

I am just about to rejoin the work force; I have no money I need to work for a while before I deal with the judgment so I can get a roof over my head.

The Management co. charged me for replacement of the carpet for the entire house that needed to be replaced before I moved in.

My Mom was living there, she moved in to an old worn out carpet. My Mom got sick and died there. I took care of here there for two years.

I took over the lease when my Mom died, shortly after they raised the rent and I couldnt afford to live there. I did default on the lease but I cleaned up the place and moved out when they asked me to. I went to court and told them I was out and would try to pay the rent I had defaulted on ASAP but things didnt work out like I expected and I found my self with no job and no home. They charged me for all kinds of other things too but the carpet is the biggest one.

What are my rights and what can I do?

Darryl

It appears that, at least at the moment, the judgment is not collectable. Once you rejoin the workforce, you might be able to make arrangments with the landlord to pay the judgment. If the landlord is determined and you have no contact with it, it's possible that the landlord could find out where you work or bank, and have the sheriff enforce the appropriate levies. Or, you could file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy if you qualify.
