Hospital bill sent to collection agency

How do I respond to a bill sent to collection in my Son's name, (he died in 2005) He was insured, but the insurance paid only part. My son was 26 when he died, he did not have any assets and no will.

Unless there was a probate opened with assets, you can safely throw the bill away. You are not responsible for paying any of his debts. The proceeds from his life insurance policy belong to the beneficiary and you don't have to use them to pay his debts. Sounds like the creditor is out of luck.
