Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

My identity was stolen in 2005 and after filling out paperwork for months and my bank account being broken into several times I did all I could do and not all the charges were dropped. I filed a police report but nothing was done... the person's name and old addresses come up in my credit report... I don't know how to change that, but I desperately want to, given that this person stalked and attacked me in the process of getting my credit card numbers and everything else. There is no police report of that, as I was fuzzy on what happened until it was too late. At this point I'm off the grid and owe a collection agency 27k and have no bank account... the money I make is all in freelance work for cash. I basically don't exist on the radar. I think it's been about 4 years since everything went to collections, so the SOL in Cali might be up... but I'm just not certain what I would have to do to begin clearing this up or what kind of consultant I need to hire... or if my debt just goes away in a certain period of time. I would like to get back on the grid at some point.

Evne if you disappeared, if the collection agencies got judgments against you, the judgemnts are valid for ten years, they collect interest at 10% and they can re-new the judgments again for another ten years.

I suggest that you attempt to prove that your identity was stolen and that these debts are not your debts. Perhaps there are procedures for fixing your credit. I know of a law firm that specializes in that specialty.

I would not suggest being passive about any Identity Theft issue. To fix the damage done, you must be aggressive and persistent. Our firm has section on our website dedicated to Identity Theft. Take a look and either contact us or another firm that deals with Consumer Issues (Identity Theft) on Naca.net.
