Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Ok well I'm an idiot and fell victim to a magazine subscription scam over the phone on Monday. I would like to know if a verbal agreement is legally binding in California since they have a recording of me confirming everything and giving them my information, even though I didn't fully understand what was going on. I have since realized that this was a scam and have called my bank and cancelled my debit card. Tomorrow I am calling the services to "cancel" my subscrription, but I am unsure if they actually will. So since they will be unable to get money from my account since it is a different debit number, will I still be required to continue paying them? I have read serveal websites of people dealing with the exact same thing but never read anything about any results. Is it possible for them to send a collections agency after me?? Please any help in this situation would be great!

You can have your credit card dispute the charges based on fraud. Sometimes the credit card will get your money back from the retailer.

I went back to sleep, awoke later, realized it wasn't a dream, and called back to cancel. The peddler was heartbroken and in the pre-iPhone era, I had nothing to read over my morning cereal, but lesson learned: shop on your schedule, not theirs.
