Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Indirectly paying creditor - by paying her debt?
i don't want to pay my judgment creditor directly. she is a judgment debtor herself, and I would like to pay her creditors instead. is this possible? will this satisfy her money judgment against me?
thanks for your help!

Re: Indirectly paying creditor - by paying her debt?
The safest way would be to get a cashier's check for the full amount of the judgment you owe, plus interest. (You could even request a payoff demand letter from her.) Then, contact her judgment creditor and tell them you are holding this cashier's check payable to her, and would they like to send the marshal over to levy on it. After the marshal departs with the check, you send her a demand for a notice of satisfaction of judgment. Another, perhaps easier, way would be to invite her judgment creditor to file a notice of lien in her case against you, then you would be on more solid ground in paying them directly (and, again, then demanding a notice of satisfaction). Have fun, and be sure you are correct on the facts and there is no intervening bankruptcy.
