Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Interest

I received a letter from a debt collector asking for payment of the principle balance. I ignored the letter and just paid the the amount owed plus finance charges to the company I actually owed, since I still continue to do business with them. I then received a letter from the debt collector demanding I still owed them $15.00 for interest. Do I just ignore this? The company I wrote the check to said I was paid in full. Doesn't a judge have to decide if I should pay interest. Doesn't the debt collectors letter have to be sent certified mail for it to be valid?

Re: Interest

It's not worth going to court over $15. Pay 'em.
