Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
I was involved in an auto accident in 1989. At that time I owed 4000.00. Now the other partys insurance company is suing me for 22,000.00 and trying to garnish my wages. I cannot afford to have my income garnished. I an currently in financial hardship. What rights do i have? What steps can be taken?

You can apply to the issuing court for a hardship exemption. Bring your bank statements and pay stubs. There often are volunteer attorneys who assist with such things. Check in the local courthouse for names and phone numbers. If your budget is very tight, you might look at alternatives, including bankruptcy, to eliminate debt.
