Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

judgement payment to an attorney

I had a judgement against me for $983.00 in 2002. I recently paid $983.00 to the attorney and told him it was ''payment in full''. I even wrote that on the check. He cashed the check but didnt fill out a satisfaction of judgement. I asked him why? He says that I owe an addition 98.00 per each year and other costs. He accepted the check that stated ''Paid in full'' What recourse do I have?

Re: judgement payment to an attorney

Your effort to negotiate a "paid in full" settlement was not legally sufficient. Your only remedy is to pay the remaining balance that you owe on the judgment. Judgments accrue interest at 10% per year.
