Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Old Judgment Company out of Business
I have found an old judgment against me (Riverside County) from October 1996. The company that sued me is no longer in existence. The only information I have is the attorneys name and number on the Abstract of Judgment. This judgment was filed against me personally and with a company I use to run which is no longer in existence. Since the company that filed the case is no longer around, what can I do to settle this or remove it? Can the attorney work on this since thier is no longer a client??

Do nothing for 15 months and pray that nobody renews it.

California judgments expire after 10 years, so coventional wisdom would be to "let sleeping dogs lie" for the time being. If the nobody takes any steps to renew the judgment, you won't have to worry about settling with anybody.
