Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

judgment and jurisdiction

A California debt collection agency has sent a bill for a 13 year old judgment from Illinois. I have sent them request for verification of debt and authority in this matter. I also stated dispute. They continue to send bills without any of the above. However, my question is domesticating a foreign judgment. Are they required under California law to do so?

Re: judgment and jurisdiction

Are you in California? If you are, they may be in violation of state and federal law. (Google Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) However, if this is a valid judgment, they may be able to domesticate it. This turns on questions of the validity of the judgment and you should have this reviewed by an attorney.
