Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I have a judgment against me for 40k plus as much interest as the law will allow. Of course I don't have the money to pay this in a lump sum. What can I do if I cannot file for bankruptcy? Also what is the legal limit for interest in CA?

The judgment accrues interest at 10% per year. Why exactly is it that you think you "cannot file for bankruptcy"? Has a bankruptcy lawyer told you this?

One is barred from filing bankruptcy for eight years from the date the last Chapter 7 was filed and there was a discharge. Otherwise, you might be able to file bankruptcy. You could try to negotiate the judgment, but many people who do so without an attorney usually wind up complicating things.

Also, if you do not believe you owed that amount of money and there's good reason to reopen the case, it would be foolhardy not to speak with an attorney.
