Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Former Landlord Company levied my account!

I was notified today by my credit union today that there was a levy on my savings account.

Background: I have been going back and forth with this collection agency listed on my credit report for some time now. I was evicted from my apartment about 2 years ago and this debt went into a collection agency, I have been requesting proper debt validation from them for some time now and all they do is respond with copies of the court evictions papers and a copy of my rental agreement. (My rental agreement does not state anything about paying any collection agency) a few weeks ago I sent the collection agency a final letter asking them to CEASE explaining I would only deal with the original creditor, they responded by putting a levy on my credit union account. I have ten days to respond ( I havent received anything from the plaintiff, they claim on my credit report they are not able to locate even though I have been sending them letters back and forth?!) Can someone please help me I need help ASAP!!!

Re: Former Landlord Company levied my account!

They can only levy against your account if they received a judgment against you in Court. If they did, they can levy your account and garnish your wages.
