Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

late fee collection dispute

several times, i received bills from a company that were incorrect. i didn't pay until they were corrected. they charged me late fees, more than the actual bill was. i told them i disputed the bill, thus, waited for the right bill before paying. then i cancelled the service, it was annoying to keep calling. they sent this to a collection agency, each time; the amount grows. they threaten to report me to a credit agency. what are my rights?

Re: late fee collection dispute

I can appreciate the fact that you may take this as a self-serving piece of advice, but the best thing for you to do is have a third party, lawyer, contact the creditor and negotiate the collection account. It should not be expensive and you should receive a much quicker resolution as well as relieve yourself of any further headaches-Martin
