Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

lawsuit for old credit card debt

I received a summons to appear from a lawyer representing CACH, who bought my debt from Chase. I talked to the law firm today to clear some details, horrible experience. The bottom line is, I am willing to pay what I owe, but do I still have to appear in court? Is it too late to talk to Chase? The law firm is Erica L. Brachfeld based in Torrance, CA., I have done a little research on these 2 companies, and know they are the worse of the worse. I have no money for lawyer fees, and am in no state to fight. I just want this thing to go away. Please advice.

Re: lawsuit for old credit card debt

Yours is an example of what not to do when sued for an old debt. First, you called an attorney -- the other side's attorney!!!! They are the people who are suing you!!!! You should have consulted an attorney who could give YOU legal advice! Next, you indicated you promised this attorney you would pay! If the debt was too old to be sued on, guess what: Your promise reset the statute of limitations and if they couldn't sue you before, they can now! Go see a lawyer who does consumer debt issues before you hurt yourself any more. Remember, you have a limited time to answer, you snooze, you lose!
