Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Can a lawyer represent a homeowner's association in small claims court even though he/she is not a board member or officer of the corporation? How about if the lawyer is a non-officer committee chair?

Lawyers are not allowed to appear as lawyers [they could be a party, the CEO of the sued corporation, etc.].
