Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Leased vehicle

I returned a leased vehicle because I could no longer pay for it. After the finance company sold it, they are still coming after me for $16000,00. I cannot get to an agreement with them to set up a payment plan. They are threatening to take me to court. The finance company is in New York, NY I live in California. Legally how does this work, can they take me to court? If so, will they take me to court in California or New York?

Re: Leased vehicle

Yes, they can sue you. They will probably sue you in California. They may even turn it over to a debt collection company and have them sue you.

You may want to consult with an attorney who handles bankruptcies.
