What are the pros and cons of a legal name change as it pertains to credit ?

Unless you get a new SSN, which is normally illegal, you won't fool anybody. And if you have handled your finances poorly in the past, you will probably do so in the future; so, even if you were to successfully garner a new identity, you'll have bad credit again real soon.
