legal rights or remadie
I'am recieveing calls at my place of business, letters to my home, and phone calls to my friends' place of business, from a collection agent. I don't owe the debt, someone has used my idenity. It is also againt my credit report. I contacted TRW but no help.
Someone used my First and last name (with the wrong middle inital)and my SSN. They ran up a bill for Phone,Power and rent at some appartment in a near by town. This debt is from 4 or 5 years ago I am told.

You should immediately write to the major credit reporting agencies and obtain a copy of your "TRW" reports from them. You should then immediately report incorrect information contained in those reports IN WRITING, and demand that they investigate and remove all incorrect infomration.
It is important to do this in a letter, not simply over the telephone.
You can also get additional information from the Federal Trade Commission's website at www.ftc.gov. That site is full of information for consumers whose identities have been stolen, as well as your rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
