I lent a friend money to help her during a difficult financial period. Now she refuses to repay the money that I lent her.

The old adage stands true: we can't loan money to friends without risking loss of both money and friends. It boils down to weighing the amount borrowed against the cost of collection. Sometimes we must adhere to what's practical and not to the principle of things.

You just paid tuition at the School of Reality. Now you won't loan money to "friends" any more.
