The husband has run up several debts without the knowledge of the wife, has a judgment lean from a lawsuit over his construction business, and has not paid any bills in months including the wifes debts and medical bills. He has now had an affair and left her and the 3 kids. She has some medical bills from some cancer treatmens and about 3k in c.c. debt that she signed for. He has about 50k is personal loans, c.c debt and his construction related debt and another 16k judgment lien for work not / wrongly performed and 16k car loan that he signed for that is being repo-ed.

Is she liable for his debts that she did not sign for or know about?

We believe that he has a gambling problem.

She may be liable for some of the debts, depending on the nature of the debt. If money was spent to pay for the necessities of life, she may be responsible for half of this.

She should immediately consult a divorce attorney and get the divorce process started. She may be able to have the debts assigned to the spouse.
