lien on vehicle

my mother is getting harrasing phone calls on a car my brother-in-law has failed to pay payments, this car is in my mothers name, my questons is my mother has a car that is paid off and she is concerned that they can put a lien on her car. is this possible? please advise

Your mother's paid for car cannot be liened. However if payments are not met, the creditor will sue. If the creditor gets a judgment against your mother, the creditor may be able to execute against her assets, including the paid for car. If she has title to the car, she should take possession and sell it to limit her liability.
