Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
How Literal is ''9/10 of the Law?''
My former employer, a TV Prod. Co., went out of
business, owing me nearly $11,000. Since then, I
have borrowed some equipment from them (a
video camera and deck, worth less than the
amount owed) to use for freelance work.
Recently, the owner of the company demanded
the equipment back. At the advice of others,
including a (non-retained) lawyer, I refused to
return the gear until I was paid. There is no
written contract that specifies a date or condition
of return. Will my case stand up if he sues me?
