Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I had an LLC with a partner who resigned in 2009. I filed a new statement of information listing myself and my mother as the managers. There is an outstanding balance overdue by over one year from a client for $3981.75. I would like to take the matter to small claims court. Do I file the claim using the company name against the developer or between myself and the developer by his name?

If the client signed a contract with the LLC, and that is to whom the money is owed, then the plaintiff should be the LLC.
