Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

how long before debt expiresoff a report

i recieved my trimerge credit report,not too sure how to read it. most of my accts. are old and have a balance of $0 some are more than 6yrs old and some have been paid,some have DLA=07/96 for example.what does this mean and is there a legal time frame when accts. are automatically exempt or no longer required to be on a credit report.what actions should i take to get these off or will they always be there?
