Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I made an appointment with a therapist, and cancelled 23 hours before the appointment because I felt like I was coming down with the flu, not to mention that my kids already had it, and I was probably not going to be able to leave them alone. He began sending me notices to pay the initial consultation visit of $200, and recently sent a notice stating he will file in municipal court if I don't pay by the end of the month.

Whether or not he is successful depends on what his cancellation policy was. If it was 24hours in advance and you didn't call him then you may owe him the money. However if you have a valid excuse that could not have been anticipated before the 24hrs then probably not. One has to question how successful this therapist if he wants to waste a day in court trying to collect his $200.00 which is all he can collect except for his court filing fees. I would suggest offering him a lesser amount and never seeing him again. He should win an award for customer service, as I bet you would never see him again nor recommend him to your friends. You might suggest that when negotiating with him.

Good luck and hope that helps.
