new marriage, old debt responsiblity

In CA, man with good credit marries woman with no money, bad credit, old unpaid debts and unpaid collections. Can new husband be sued by her creditors for her old debts and forced to pay her old bills?

As a general rule, debts incurred by spouses before and during marriage are considered community debts. While the new wife's creditors may not be able to sue you directly, one-half of all community property assets are liable to satisfy any judgments against new wife. Everything acquired by married couples after marriage is considered community property and, hence, subject to enforcement of money judgments.
