Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

If I get married

I pay child support from my previous realtionship. I also pay retro payments for payments I was unable to make a few years back. My federal tax return and state tax return are taking away from at the end of every year and applied to my past due balance. If I marry my current fiance will her tax return also be affected by my past due obligations and can her credit report be affected as well.

Re: If I get married

You should contact the IRS for clarification as the rules on these things can change. You can get married and file separately. The question is what happens if you file jointly. Believe it or not, the IRS folks are actually pretty helpful. You should give them a call. Good luck in your marriage-Martin
