Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Medical Accounts

I have two accounts with a hospital. There has been no payment or payment arrangements made in the last five years.Am I still legally responsible for these charges? I have heard of an Out Lawed Account, no payments in five years and the account must be written off and taken off of the credit report. Is this true?

Re: Medical Accounts

The general rule is that for a written agreement, one can collect for up to four years since the date of the last payment. If it has been five years, you are probably in good shape. A short letter to the hospital and/or collection agency may do the trick. You can call my office to discuss this matter and/or speak with a local professional. Good luck.
