Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Medical Bills For A Visitor

Hi,

My Dad is visiting me from India. He had a heart attack and was in critical care and hospitlized for couple of weeks. The hospital bill is very high, ~170k and he has a travelers insurance. My question is if I am legally responsible for the expense. I have not signed as any guarantor but the hospital has my address.

Please advise..

Re: Medical Bills For A Visitor

You are not personally liable if you did not guarantee payment. However, you may have inadvertently signed something when he was admitted to the hospital. If the hospital starts making demands for payment from you, dispute it in writing right away and demand to see a copy of any written agreements. If the hospital continues to press you for payment, feel free to call my office for a consultation.
