Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Medical Collections

3 years ago I broke my leg and required medical attention. My friends called for an ambulance and one showed up. After the ambulance arrived and administered 1st aid, they discovered that the Ambulance had a flat tire. Instead of changing the tire, or calling out another ambulance, they called in a Medical Helicopter. I was then charged for both of services: The Mediflight helicopter and the Ambulance. I have no problems paying for the Ambulance, but I don't believe that I should have to pay for the medical helicopter. I believe it was an un-necessary service because of a simple flat tire. I was uninsured at the time of my accident, and now I have a $10,000 Medical Helicopter bill in collections. I have not paid a single cent on the debt and am worried. A lawyer has sent me a letter and I am just wondering what I should do. I dont make that much money and paying this debt would cripple me financially. Should I hire a lawyer and threaten a lawsuit? Should I let the debt continue? Please help! I have photos of the entire incident including the flat tire on the ambulance.

Re: Medical Collections

Get the medical records/ambulance records. What do the records say as reason for helicopter transport?
