Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Medical lability for family member's expenses

My father was visiting California from Philippine. He got sick and I brought him into the hospital. His condition worsened and he passed away while at the hospital.

Even though he had medical insurance, it did not cover all his medical expenses. I just received a medical bill from the hospital addressed to me. Am I liable for his medical expenses?

Thank you for your help.

You are not liable unless you signed a document agreeing to pay his bill. If you did, then contact me about filing bankruptcy.

It depends on what you signed at the hospital. Ususally there is a form for financial responsibility that must be signed prior to admittance. Of course, your father's estate is also liable for the bills, so even if you need to pay them, you can claim payment from his estate as a creditor.
