Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Money Judgment

I was just informed through a credit report that I have a money judgment against me from 2003. How long is this in effect, in general and on my credit report? The original debt has already fallen off my credit report since more than 7 years has passed.

Re: Money Judgment

The judgment can be collected during the next 10 years, and it can be renewed if done properly before then. It will stay on your credit report at least for 7 years, if not longer.

You might call the creditor's attorney and make arrangements to discount the debt and pay it off if your credit rating is important to you and if you don't want a paycheck or bank account garnished. However, by doing so, you will be providing information on where they could find you and, potentially, your assets.
