Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Money owed from previous employer

My boyfriend is owed a significant amount of money from his ex-employer, over $10k. We would like to send a letter stating money owed, since he will not return phone calls or meet. Is there an official way of demanding money, and threatening legal action if money owed isn't paid? Thank you.

Re: Money owed from previous employer

A great way to demand money is to have a lawyer write to your debtor on the lawyer's letterhead, followed by a lawsuit. If it is wages, overtime, vacation, etc. that is owed, contact the Office of the State Labor Commissioner, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.

The California Department of Labor is the enforcement agency for the payment of wages, etc. Contact their labor relations representatives about filing a claim to recover his unpaid wages.
