My Money in Savings Account Under My Ex's Name

My girlfriend and I just broke up after 2 years of going together. For the last 8 months or so, we were saving money in a savings account under her name. The money totals about 6400 dollars or so. Most of the time, I gave her cash($800) so she deposited it. I gave her my check($800) only a few times. When we started this savings account, we agreed verbally that we'd use this money for opening up a small store together. And now that we broke up, she refuses to give any money(not even a dollar) back. It is all my money in the savings, even though I'm willing to let her have some portion of it.

I believe it's my money because all the money has come from my salary every month, in addition to that, I was helping her pay her bills(her car lease, gas, credit cards).

Is ther anything I can do?

from the facts given so far, since you two were not married, community property issues do not come into play. therefore, the monies you earned to put toward your investment goals would be your separate property. thus, you would be entitled to remedies for breach of contract and/or for her unjust enrichment in the alternative if you can show the court the monies currently in her possession can be legally traced to your salary earnings. if you would like a free phone consultation on this matter, email us directly with your contact information today.
