Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I owe $130 on a hospital bill that is past due. last month I paid $40 on the bill to the hospital. Today I recvd a bill frm a collector for the entire sum+10% interest. what are my rights? can they still collect if the hospital accepted payment?

If the hospital accepted your payment as payment in full then no, if not then they can still pursue you for the balance. If it was not paid in full then you should be able to negotiate that amount down. Hospitals over bill and what they charge you is different than what they charge the insurance. Tell them that and demand a lower price. There was one hospital who got sued for this and changed their policy as a result.
