Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
i haven't paid a credit card debt in about five years. I owe roughly 1000.00. Is it worth paying off and will it help my score?

After four years you can't be sued, unless you reset the clock by making a payment. After 7 years it drops off your credit report.
Good advice from Mr. Stone. I don't know that it would increase your score after this time.
SO LETS HELP THE NEEDY EH???? BOTH of you have not given a complete reply and one slam that I agreee with after watching for sometime just to help someone -
Dear Client who asked the question: I think you should also know these things: Mr. Stone is correct - after 4 years they cant sue you - so do not make any more payments because the 4 years starts on the date of your last paymend unless you want to keep perfect credit - AND the bill CAN and will stay on your credit for 7 years total from your last payment date - but rarely do credit companies remove it volunutarily or automatically, so you need to check your credit reports each year or as much as pssible and keep evidence of the last payment date. If it is still being reported after the7 years you can send a notice to all the credit reporting companies to have it removed. AND NUMBER THREE companes will still try and collect even after the 4 and 7 years - you do not owe them and you need to need to send them a ltter certified return receipt saying they are violating state and federal law and to back off. If it goes that far - look for form letters on the internet or buy a Nolo press book that will show you how to deal with it. There you go. It is free but it is basically complete.
Hey guys - is this a race or a service or something????
Good luck to you - ALL
