Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
I paid the judgement, but it appears on my credit report
I was sued in 1993 when my bicycle was hit by a car. Although I don't think I should have lost, I paid for the damages to the car. Now I am trying to buy my home and this appears on my credit report. After three weeks of trying to contact the other party, I finally "caught" her at work. (she wouldn't return any of my calls). I asked her to file the appropriate paperwork with the court stating I had paid her. She acknowledged I had paid, but refuses to "do anything to help me get my house". I want to get this taken care of as soon as possible, because the interest rates are going up. How can I get her to file the paperwork. I have been extremely nice to her. The judgement is less than $500 and I did pay it. I am currently trying to locate my cancelled check. Can she be held liable if I don't get locked into a lower interest rate due to the time this is taking? Please help. I am definitely willing to pay for counsel to get this resolved. Thanks

Re: I paid the judgement, but it appears on my credit report
The judgment creditor (the person who won the judgment against you)
has an obligation to file a document called an
Acknowledgment of Satisfaction of Judgment. If she
refuses to do so after a proper written demand, she]
can be liable for your actual damages plus $100.
