Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
papers served?
I am being sued by a company for a debt. I have not been served, but the receiptionist at my office was served the papers to give to me.
The gentleman told her he was my client and needed to give me some paperwork.
Can a processor serve papers to a receiptionist or does he need to serve me directly?

You've been served.

Don't play service games. Consult an attorney about responding to the complaint within 30 days. Perhaps they waited too long to sue, or there exist other legal defenses.
Re: papers served?
You can be served at your place of work just like they did. They -do- have to mail a copy to you at the same address.
I agree with Mr. Stone that there might be defenses to the lawsuit. Contact a lawyer to assist you with filing a responsive pleading within 30 days.

You can be served at your regular place of business by leaving it there for you with a suitable person over the age of 18, and also mailing.
