Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

I have a personal judgment against me for a loan the is unpaid - it was from a past neighbor in 2005. I am a California resident. My ex-wife is also listed as having the judgment against her. she had nothing to do with this loan.

1 - how long will it remain on our credit reports.

2 - Is there a way to have her removed and leave only me with the judgment.

Thank you

1 Answer from Attorneys

1. Until paid, or 17 years if they fail to renew it.

2. Only if the judgment creditor will agree to it, which I can't think of any reason they would. What she had to do with the loan is she was married to you. Loans taken out during a marriage are community debts, so it's her debt too.
