personal loan to a friend

i lent $ to an ex-girlfriend a few years ago and she recently stopped making payments.she owes about $4k still.is there a statute of limitations.also we both signed a ''promise to pay back'' agreement, although it's not notarized. can i get this $ back in small claims court?

Depending on the nature of the agreement, you have 2 years from the date of the breach if agreement was oral, 4 years from date of the breach if agreement was written. Small claims would cover the $4k amount since the upper limit is $7,500.
