phone co. access number to a.o.l. not toll free
When I signed up to america on line (aol). I was given a list of local numbers to use for access. assured by aol, and my local phone co. that the number I was using was a local non-toll charge access number, with $19.95 aol unlimited mo. access chg. First phone bill arrived, with toll charges of $540.00....I immediately called aol, and my phone co, both said it was not there fault and I had to pay so I disconnected aol that day. The phone co said I had to pay the entired balance...it was not there fault I had been given a wrong access number. Then the second mo bill for a partial month services came in at an additional $490.00 in toll charges. I paid the first months bill in total and was told they would break up the second months billing. When the time came to pay the second bill, they told me I had to pay in full or be disconnected. I could not pay that amount, and now I have had my phone service disconnected. Am I responsible for the toll charges to the phone co, or is there some way out of this very expensive nightmare.??

Yes, you made the calls so it is your responsibility.
