Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Pre-marital debt judgement

I recieved a sheriff's levy on a pre-marital debt but did not find out

about it until I tried to pay my rent. This is a pre-marital debt, I was not

formally served with judgement papers of any kind, I simply was mailed

papers to appear in court to dispute this debt, the creditors emptied my

joint bank account leaving me, my husband and 2 small children penny

less with rent, utilities and car registration and insurance due? What

can I do? Is this legal? Please help me!

Re: Pre-marital debt judgement

Money in a joint account is his as well as yours. They have a right to attach the account. I would suggest negotiating with the creditor.
