Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

problems with freight forwarder

I ordered a couple of tables from overseas which I was planning on importing. The tables arrived and the freight forwarding company called me. I said I would like to inspect the tables first. They said no problem and faxed me over a form to sign. I signed and returned. I inspected the tables and they were chipped and the glass was missing. I refused to accept them. The company took me to small claims court and the judge didn't even listen to my argument. He said you signed the release with the freight company. I have appealled this to the next court.

Am I responsible for the cost of tables and shipment even though I didn't accept because they were damaged and imcomplete? Is appealling a good idea?

thanks in advance for a response

Re: problems with freight forwarder

But you did accept it. In fact, you signed a paper that specifically stated that you accepted to the merchandise. Why would you think that are written document that you signed did not mean exactly what it said?
