Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California
Promissory Note
I typed a Promissory Note to pay back my brother-in-law, and his wife (my sister) and I both agreed to it and signed it. She hand-wrote on the bottom that she left some items at my house when she left. I signed both copies first and had my boyfriend hand-deliver the documents to her and she signed both. Now, my sister and her husband will not come get the items they left this week and are telling me I owe them more money than the Promisory Note and they are threatening to take me to court. Can this document hold up in court?

Re: Promissory Note
The Promissory note can be evidence of the agreement, however, they could argue that there is other evidence, including oral evidence, that you owe them more money. It will be up to a judge as to who he/she will believe.
